Hypertension
Hypertension (known as RaktaGataVata in Ayurveda) is high blood
pressure in the arteries. The increase in blood pressure depends on a person's
age, sex, physical and mental activities, family history, and diet. The normal
blood pressure of a healthy adult individual is 120 mmHg systolic and 80 mmHg
diastolic. Unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyles are the main causes of the
problem hypertension today. This creates toxins (ama) and narrows the blood
vessels. As a result, the blood has to exert more pressure to circulate,
resulting in high blood pressure.
The treatment of hypertension in Ayurveda has a long term and
deeper impact because instead of controlling the symptoms, it treats the root
cause of the problem.
