Low Testosterone
Basic description of the disease
Testosterone is a hormone produces in the human body. Both men and women produce this hormone, but it is found in higher levels in men. The testicles primarily produce testosterone along with the pituitary gland. That’s why Testosterone deficiency is a common problem amongst men. This hormone is an important one because it is responsible for a man’s sexual development and appearance. It is also the hormone behind a man’s sex drive. It also regulates muscle mass, sexual features, red blood cells, bone density, sperm production and sex drive. The condition of male low testosterone occurs when the testicles do not produce enough testosterone hormone . A common cause for low testosterone or libido in women or men is the use of immune-suppressants, antidepressants, blood pressure drugs, and chemotherapy. Excessive use of alcohol can also be a factor. Physical causes include hypothyroidism, many chronic illnesses and viral infections, a variety of metabolic disorders and excess weight can all create low testosterone levels as well as the other sex hormones.
According to Ayurveda, when the three doshas are in balance it results in a correct endocrine balance. The hormones, including the brain, sex, and thyroid hormones, are all produced at the correct time and the testosterone and libido remains intact. Ayurveda recognizes that good endocrine balance for testosterone and libido is related to vitality and motivation; when the supply of hormones is depleted lethargy ensues. Ayurvedic treatment involves first establishing which organ or system is at the root of the problem and Ayurvedic medicines are selected accordingly. Having natural testosterone boosters such as Aswagandha, Kesar, Gokshura can help you solve all low testosterone related problems.
It is however recognized that in most cases Pitta is at a low level and the emphasis is therefore placed on increasing Pitta.
The Ayurvedic treatment can be greatly enhanced by the use of certain Yogic exercises and postures, Panchkarma treatments and Ayurvedic therapies, which are carefully selected according to the Ayurvedic doctor and diagnosis. Ayurvedic treatment for low testosterone levels is considered to be the best of the other alternative treatments available because it maintains the proper hormonal balance in the body and does not cause an excess or deficiency of other hormones to cause newer problems.
