The biggest problem is fear. Fear of the future, fear of the child. Trust your instincts and enjoy the intimate relationship with your child.

Breastfeeding problems from the point of view of Ayurveda

According to Ayurveda, the mother’s breast is located in the Anahata chakra (the 4th Chakra — heart chakra). It shows that the breast is supposed to provide love and nourishment to the baby. Breast milk is called “Amrita”, the nectar for the growing baby. It is the essence (upadhatu) of the rasa dhatu. The breasts start their work, as soon as the labor pains begin.

Breastfeeding may be natural, but it is not always easy. Many moms face some challenges along the way. Breastfeeding is a learned skill, and sometimes — for all kinds of reasons — things don't go as expected.

Breastfeeding problems include:

  • Sore or cracked nipples
  • Insufficient breast milk
  • Breast engorgement
  • Excessive breast milk
  • Thrush
  • Clogged milk duct
  • Mastitis
  • Inverted nipples

A mother’s habits and life activities affect the quality of milk. It highlights the importance of a happy, stress-free state for a breastfeeding mother.

How Ayurvedic doctors treat breastfeeding problems

Ayurveda suggests a range of natural foods and herbs to enhance breast milk production. A healthy diet and a relaxed state help in the production of breast milk. There are times when breast milk detoxification is needed — it usually includes having a balanced diet and drinking plenty of fluids.

Natural remedies are the best assistant in breast treatment. Some of the best known types of Aloe vera have many healing properties for sores and cracked nipples. Massaging with sesame oil or any other natural oil helps to increase the flow of milk. Massage is also important for a blocked milk duct or mastitis.
