Cyst formation in ovaries from the point of view of Ayurveda
Women have two ovaries that produce eggs and the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Sometimes a fluid-filled sac called a cyst develops on the ovary. These cysts appear as pockets or fluid-filled sacs that are present in the ovary. Many women develop at least one cyst during their lifetime.
Often, ovarian cysts do not cause any symptoms, but they can appear if the cyst grows.
Ovarian cyst symptoms may include:
- Abdominal bloating or swelling
- Painful bowel movements
- Pelvic pain before or during the menstrual cycle, irregular menstruation, heavy bleeding
- Painful intercourse
- Pain in the lower back or thighs
- Breast tenderness
- Nausea and vomiting
- Large cysts lead to urinary retention or frequent urge to urinate.
According to Ayurveda, most of the women are dealing with cyst issue due to wrong eating habits and inactive lifestyle.
In the language of Ayurveda, the cysts are called “Granthi”, and are mainly the result of an aggravation of Kapha dosha. If the cyst is in the ovary, it is called “Andkosh Granthi”. Granthi shows that Mamsa (muscle fibers), Rakta (blood) and Medo Dhatu (tissue) are vitiated. When the level of toxins in the tissues increases, the body accumulates them as cysts around the ovaries. Thus, the presence of many cysts shows a high level of toxins in these dhatus (tissues).
