Vaginal discharge from the point of view of Ayurveda


Vaginal discharge is thin and watery or thick and cloudy in appearance. Hormonal imbalance, especially of estrogen, is the major cause for the excess of vaginal white discharge. Secondary sexual characteristics also play an important role. Estrogen is the main hormone that regulates body functions in females. In severe cases, estrogen imbalance may cause sterility. Some factors are also cause leucorrhea. The most common one is Trichomoniasis, which turns discharge into a greenish or yellow appearance. Normal  vaginal discharge may appear clear, cloudy white and without any types of smell.
Changes in normal discharge can be caused by many reasons such as menstrual cycle, emotional stress, nutritional status, sexual arousal, pregnancy, and usage of medications, including birth control pills.
 
According to Ayurveda, Kapha dosha is the main causative factor for any discharge. So, it may be said that Kapha aggravated due to its own vitiating factors, produces white and painless vaginal discharges  due to dominance of its liquid property by vitiating the Rasadhatu of reproductive system. The principle of Ayurvedic treatment of Vaginal discharge is mostly based on Kapha reducing, Agni balancing (digestive fire). In order to cleanse the accumulated toxins and bring Kapha dosha back to normal level with the help of rejuvenating herbs are considered the main principle of treatment through Ayurveda.

Ayurveda treats the root cause of smelly white discharge, giving relief from vaginal burning sensations. It also regulates the hormonal imbalance and brings it to normal.
