Emotions that Block

Alcoholism is treatable if a person is willing to take responsibility for their illness. The soul must be healed as it is sick with hatred, fear, jealousy, resentment, anger — alcohol has worked to neutralize these destructive emotions.

Alcoholism from the point of view of Ayurveda

Alcoholism is a condition when a person drinks so much that their body gets addicted to alcohol. Alcohol use disorders develop when you drink so much that the brain undergoes chemical changes. These changes enhance the pleasurable sensations of drinking alcohol and make you drink more often, even if it is harmful.

According to Ayurveda, consumption of large quantities of alcohol is toxic in every way. An alcohol use disorder can cause serious and long-term damage to your liver, which is responsible for removing toxins from your blood. Alcoholism also creates physical, mental, spiritual, social, economical and family problems, like losing a job or destroying relationships.

In Ayurveda and Sanskrit texts, alcoholism is called Madyapash or Madyasakti. Madya means Alcohol, Pash — Habit, Aasakti — Craving.
