Epilepsy

Epilepsy from the point of view of Ayurveda

Epilepsy is a neurological imbalance in which a person loses consciousness due to excessive electric discharge of cerebral neurons. Epileptic attacks can last from a few seconds to a few minutes. Epilepsy is a fairly common neurological disorder that affects many people around the world. Anyone can develop epilepsy, but it’s more common it is in young children and older adults. It occurs slightly more in males than in females of all races, ethnic backgrounds and ages. Epilepsy is a central nervous system (neurological) disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal - causing seizures or periods of unusual behavior, sensations, and sometimes loss of awareness. There are different types of epilepsy and seizures. Seizures, abnormal movements or behavior due to unusual electrical activity in the brain, are a symptom of epilepsy. But not all people who appear to have seizures have epilepsy. Epilepsy is a chronic disorder that causes unprovoked, recurrent seizures. A seizure is a sudden rush of electrical activity in the brain. Possible causes include - traumatic brain injury, serious illness or very high fever, stroke, other vascular diseases, lack of oxygen to the brain, brain tumor or cyst, Alzheimer’s disease, maternal drug use, prenatal injury, lack of oxygen at birth, infectious diseases such as AIDS and meningitis, genetic or developmental disorders or neurological diseases.
