Trismus (Lock jaw)
Basic description of the disease
Trismus is when you can’t open your mouth as wide as usual.
Trismus, also sometimes called lockjaw, is a painful condition in which the chewing muscles of the jaw become contracted and sometimes inflamed, preventing the mouth from fully opening.
Trismus occurs when a person is unable to open their mouth. Many muscles and nerves around your jaw work together to open and close your mouth. It can occur as a result of trauma to the jaw, oral surgery, infection, cancer, or radiation treatment for cancers of the head and throat. Most cases of trismus are temporary, typically lasting for less than 2 weeks, but some may be permanent.
A tight jaw can cause pain or discomfort in many parts of your body, including your head, ears, teeth, face, and neck. The intensity of the pain can vary, and may be described as achy, throbbing, tender, or severe.
Hanugraha has symptoms like stiffness of jaw with or absence of pain.
Ayurveda has wonderful remedies to cure lock jaw symptom.
In Hanugraha, Vata dosha is predominantly involved.
A specific Ayurvedic treatment plan has been developed for joint stiffness, including jaw stiffness and lock jaw. First of all, we have to find the cause - the root cause is Vatas Dosha's imbalance. Reduce Vata's dominance and eliminate the inflammatory flare, if any.
Ayurveda offers a variety of natural products used in the healing process.
Self-massage of the jaw can be done at home, or head and sholder massage can be entrusted to an Ayurveda specialist - the massage very effectively and quickly reduces the performance of Vata, especially effective if the right oil is used, according to your type - it can be determined by our specialists. At the same time Vata elevated levels for the whole body, full body massage used with Ayurvedic oils and treatments would be highly recommended. Sesame oil, avocado oil, mustard oil (if necessary for a warming effect to increase Pitt's action) in combination with cinnamon, clove, tea tree, Cajeput or other has good benefits. Jaw problems suitable for Yoga and Pranayamas (breathing technique) are extremely effective.
During the consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor an individual treatment plan is drawn, where there are both home-recommended techniques and treatments, and other treatments performed by a specialist, also prescribe the necessary Ayurvedic medication - if necessary to relieve pain, stabilize doshas and more effective recovery.
