Emotions that Block

The eyes are often referred to as the “windows to the soul”. The thoughts and emotions that we raise in ourselves are caused by diseases. Condemnation, hate, criticism, resentment, anger, envy lead to eye infections.

Eye infections from the point of view of Ayurveda

Eye infections are caused by impurities in the form of bacteria and viruses. The symptoms can be found in one or both eyes.

The following are symptoms of an eye infection:
  • Pain or discomfort
  • Itchy eyes
  • The sensation that something's on or in your eye
  • Light sensitivity
  • Eye burning
  • Painful lump under your eyelid or at the base of your eyelashes

The eyes can also have yellow, green, clear, or pink discharge from one or both whites. Swollen, red, or purple eyelids, crusty lashes and lids, especially in the morning.

Types of eye infections:
  • Pinkeye (conjunctivitis)
  • Keratitis
  • Stye
  • Fungal
  • Uveitis

In Ayurveda, eye infections are known as Netrabhishyanda. They are also a major source of Pitta dosha imbalance. Excessive heat and other aspects of the fire element have been known to accumulate within the eyes, causing symptoms such as bloodshot, strained eyes, extreme dryness and diminishing visibility.
