Keratoconus from the point of view of Ayurveda

Keratoconus is a progressive corneal disease that affects the cornea of the eye. This disease results in distorted or blurred vision, and it can gradually trigger the onset of progressive nearsightedness. Only close objects can be seen clearly, and irregular blurry vision.

The cornea's cone-like shape is caused by the weakening of collagen, the small protein fibers in the eye that keep the cornea round and prevent it from bulging.

The cone-shaped surface of the cornea causes light to deflect as it makes its way to the light-sensitive retina. Keratoconus can also cause glare, halos and light sensitivity.

Some activities, such as driving, typing on a computer, watching television or reading may be difficult when having keratoconus.

It usually impacts both eyes, though symptoms in each eye may differ.

According to Ayurveda, Keratoconus is caused by vitiation of the Vata dosha.
