Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine.[1][5] Long-term issues include difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus as a result of frequent lung infections. Cystic fibrosis affects the cells that produce mucus, sweat and digestive juices. These secreted fluids are normally thin and slippery. The thick and sticky mucus associated with cystic fibrosis clogs the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs. It can also cause severe lung damage like cysts (fluid-filled sacs) and fibrosis (scar tissue). That’s how got its name. Cystic fibrosis is caused due to the abnormal mutation in the gene that controls the movement of salt in and out of the cells.
The goal of Ayurvedic treatment for cystic fibrosis is to thicken the thick sticky mucous membranes, prevent blockages in the secretory organs, and prevent or control infections. Cystic fibrosis according to Ayurveda is an imbalance of Kapha and Vata Dosha. Kapha dosha gets vitiated which results in thickening of the mucus and bodily secretions and Vata dosha carry this vitiated Kapha to various parts of the body, leading to clogging up of ducts and passages. Dosha balancing procedures and Ayurvedic therapies are prescribed by an Ayurvedic doctor during the visit.
