Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis also known as Koch’s disease, is a serious infection that mainly affects lungs – but can also occur anywhere else in the body. It is caused by bacteria that spreads from one person to another through tiny droplets released into the air via coughs and sneezes. Tuberculosis is an infection caused by bacteria that spread from person to person through microscopic droplets released into the air.
Tuberculosis is the most prevalent communicable disease, which has been declining in developed countries.
There are two forms of the disease:
Latent Tuberculosis – meant, that the germs is in the body, but immune system keeps them from spreading. Usually there is no symptoms and person are not contagious. But the infection is still alive and can one day become active
Active Tuberculosis – means, that the germs multiply and make person sick. An infected person can pass the disease on to others. The majority of active cases in adults come from latent tuberculosis infection.
Ayurveda dedicates an entire chapter for explaining the treatment Tuberculosis, what in Ayurveda is called – Rajyakshma . In Ayurveda tuberculosis involves loss of essence of tissues and low immunity resulting in affecting any organs. There is loss of rasa, rakta, mamsa, meda and shukra dhatu, ultimately leading to ojakshaya (loss of immunity). Ayurveda consist that the blockage of strotas (channels) carrying nutritious part of food leads to the symptoms like kasa (cough). Ayurvedic therapies include Snehana, Swedna, Vamana, Virechan and Basti karma. These are part of panchakarma therapy that eliminates all the toxic from the body. It opens the body channels thereby enhancing the efficiency of medicines. Rasayana compounds are very effective. It reduces the symptoms of tuberculosis. Amalaki, guduchi, yashtimadhu, and pippali are some of the rasayana medicine. Ayurvedic herbs used in the treatment are vidarikanda, brahmi, yashtimadhu, ashwagandha, guduchi, eladi churna, chitrakadi haritaki, mahalxmivilasa rasa, draksharishta.
