Nasal Obstructions
Nasal Obstructions from the point of view of Ayurveda
Nasal Obstruction is anything that restricts airflow in and out of the nose affecting one or both nasal passages. Nasal obstruction is usually caused by either swelling of the nasal tissue or an anatomical blockage which results in a narrowing of the nasal cavity and the feeling of the passages being congested. It’s also known as a nasal blockage. Many are caused by colds, allergies, sinus infections, or medications and are, therefore, temporary..
There are several different types of nasal cavity blockage. In addition to foreign objects in the nose, possibilities include:
Deviated nasal septum - The nasal septum divides the left and right nostrils. Diverted septum is simply slanted and is very often the cause of nasal congestion. Symptoms include difficulty breathing in one nostril and chronic runny nose.
Poor turbine hypertrophy - there are turbid bone structures in the nasal cavity. Irritating to allergies and dust, they swell and can cause breathing difficulties.
Choanal atresia
a congenital cause of nasal congestion, which causes excessive tissue formation in the nasal airways, resulting in difficulty breathing.
Nasal polyps - soft, cancer-free growths on the sinuses or nasal mucosa, which are usually painless but can cause a blockage in the nasal airways.
Adenoids - small patches of tissue that prevent foreign particles from entering the body through the nasal cavity. They are located directly above the tonsils and, as they grow, can cause nasal congestion and difficulty breathing.
