Tooth sensitivity
Tooth sensitivity from the point of view of Ayurveda
Tooth sensitivity or dentin hypersensitivity is the sensation of pain or discomfort in the teeth in response to certain stimuli, such as hot or cold temperatures.
It may be a temporary or a chronic problem, and it can affect one tooth, several teeth, or all the teeth in a single individual. The most cases of sensitive teeth are easily treated.
Cavities or an abscessed tooth may cause tooth sensitivity. There may also be tiny cracks in the tooth that leave the inside of the tooth exposed. There are certain toothpastes that are available to help prevent the pain associated with sensitive teeth:
Sharp pain during eating, drinking something cold, hot, sweet or sour
Pain on contact with air, while breathing through the mouth
According to Ayurveda, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha dosha balance is important for a healthy life. When one or two of these doshas vitiate or go out of control, it affects the dental health. When the vitiated Vata and Pitta afflict the teeth, they cause excessive sensitivity and intolerance to cold. This condition is called Dantaharsha.
